The inaugural Wine and Tapas Evening of the Pune Gourmet Club held on Sunday September 10, 2006 was a huge success with 14 people attending. Each member was required to bring four servings of one Tapa. Indian snacks like samosas, pakodas were strictly not allowed. The members outdid themselves and one was spoilt for choice. Tapas included chicken tikkas marinated in pomegranate juice and cooked with olives, crostinis, fritatas, green pepper stuffed with corn/cheese mix topped with salsa, garlic prawns, empenadas, fried rolls with fresh asparagus, cherry tomatoes stuffed with olive tapenade to name just a few.
The wines were blind served. IE. all bottles were wrapped in foil and numbered. Members were given slips of paper with a list of 6 numbers and 3 comment options which were alloted points. Good/Will buy(2 points), Chalega/May buy (1 point) and Yuck/Will never buy ( 0 Points). At the end of the evening, the slips were collected and points totalled.
The rankings with points earned are as follows
Grover Cabernet Shiraz (18)
